Between 1992 & 1994, I examined back copies of The (Columbus) Citizen-Journal, The Columbus Dispatch, and The Booster newspapers and documents on file at the Ohio Historical Society and Columbus Metropolitan Library in search of materials to support the community holding a Sesquicentennial celebration before 2000. The result was discovery that the first Clintonville Post Office was opened on September 13, 1847 - providing a birthday opportunity for 1997. A review of the newspaper files between the mid-1940s and the early 1960s provided interesting insights to the dramatic changes that the Clintonville area experienced.
An examination of property transfer records on file with Franklin County revealed that Clintonville had not been platted as a town, having been referred to only briefly within property transfers records around 1847 - 1850. The community first appeared on a Franklin County map in 1883 (population: 68). A review of maps between the first and the 1950s further reveals the growth of the Clintonville community.
In research of the history of the controversial Bethel to Morse Roads connection, I photocopied newspaper articles that were on file at the Columbus Metropolitan Library. |
