 | The Whetstone Park was officially dedicated in late May, 1950. By clicking
below, you will be able to review the commemorative booklet that was then published by The
Clintonville Community Council. The booklet includes numerous pictures of
Clintonville churches, schools, and theaters - along with the master plan for the park.
 | Included is a map of Clintonville that should evoke many memories and questions
of puzzlement by reviewers who did not reside in Clintonville in 1950.
 | Note the location of the Indian Springs Golf Course
|
 | Note the Oakland Park/Indianola trolley line
|
 | Note the farm that is located at the eastern edge of the Northridge Subdivision,
between Colerain and Indianola
|
 | Note how the Webster Park subdivision, north of the Whetstone Park, extended to the
river - where the Whetstone High School athletic fields are now
|
 | Note Parkview Drive in the Glen Echo Ravine
|
 | Note the absence of Ceramic and Croswell Roads north of Whetstone
Park
|
 | Note that Rathbone Road extended to the then grade crossing of the
railroad, present day Morse Road
|
 | Note that North Broadway ended at the railroad and that Oakland Park was the grade
crossing of the railroad (the railroad underpasses were not constructed until the early
1960s)
|
 | Note the Cooke Road and Wetmore Road grade crossings of the
railroad
|
 | Note the Columbus City Limits (building activity east of the railroad did
not accelerate until the 1960s. Interstate 71 and the Northland Mall replaced farms
- as did the many housing subdivisions that quickly followed. In the late 1950s, the
proposed path of the northern leg of Interstate 270 was through the now Blind/Deaf Schools
ravine, just north of the Rathbone Road...)
